About the Warwickshire 11 Plus

Warwickshire's selective schools sit within the Warwickshire Grammar Schools Consortium, part of the wider West Midlands Grammar Schools Partnership. Children take a single GL Assessment test — two multiple-choice papers covering English, maths, verbal reasoning and non-verbal reasoning — sat in mid-September at the very start of Year 6.

One result covers both the Southern area (Stratford-upon-Avon and Alcester) and the Eastern area (Rugby), so families can name schools in either or both. Registration is through Warwickshire County Council the summer before, and scores are age-standardised with places offered by rank order subject to catchment.

Warwickshire 11+ — common questions

Which board sets the Warwickshire 11+?

GL Assessment. Warwickshire, like the rest of the West Midlands partnership, moved away from CEM, so prepare with GL-style materials.

Does one test cover all the schools?

Yes — a single result can be used for any Warwickshire consortium school across both the Stratford/Alcester and Rugby areas.

Is Ashlawn School fully selective?

No — Ashlawn is partially selective: a block of Year 7 places is allocated on the 11+, but the school is otherwise non-selective.
