About the Wandsworth 11 Plus

Wandsworth doesn't have grammar schools in the traditional sense — instead, several comprehensive schools reserve a portion of their places for children who perform well on the Wandsworth Test. Graveney's selective stream in Tooting is the most competitive of these.

Because only a fraction of each school's intake is selective, the number of test places is small and the effective bar is high — particularly at Graveney, which draws strong applicants from across south London.

Test structure & subjects

EnglishMathsVerbal ReasoningNon-Verbal Reasoning

The Wandsworth Test covers English, Mathematics, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning in a timed, standardised format. It's used to rank children for the reserved selective places at participating schools.

Each school decides how many places it fills via the test and how the rest of its intake is allocated (catchment, banding). Confirm the current arrangements and dates on each school's admissions page.

How to prepare for Wandsworth 11+

Cover all four subjects. Since the selective place count is small, accuracy under time pressure is decisive — treat it like a competitive rank test rather than a pass/fail qualifier.

GL-format practice papers are broadly representative. Daily reading supports English and Verbal Reasoning; timed practice builds the pace the test rewards.
