Start 7-day free trial →The London Borough of Bromley has two super-selective state grammar schools, both in Orpington: Newstead Wood School (girls) and St Olave's Grammar School (boys), admitting on rank order of test score. Newstead Wood uses a GL Assessment test of Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning only — unusually, no English or Maths papers — sat at the end of September.
St Olave's runs its own two-stage test: a Stage 1 multiple-choice screen (English, Maths, VR and NVR), after which the top scorers are invited to Stage 2 written English and Maths papers. Neither school has a wide catchment beyond Newstead Wood's distance priority.
The No shared consortium — Newstead Wood uses a GL Assessment reasoning test (Verbal & Non-Verbal only); St Olave's runs its own two-stage 'SET', separate from the Bexley and Kent 11+.
A GL Assessment test of Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning only (about 50 minutes each, multiple choice) — no English or Maths papers.
No — St Olave's runs its own two-stage test; Stage 1 covers English, Maths, VR and NVR, and top scorers sit Stage 2 written papers. There is no catchment area.
